“The Grammatika classroom is accesible, open, and relevant.”
— Rebecca, Founder of Grammatika International
About Rebecca
Rebecca founded Grammatika International in 2012 after a serendipitous conversation on the subway with a young lawyer from Ukraine. He had recently arrived in Toronto and described his struggles to enter the legal job market. From strong legal writing skills to established Canadian networks, he felt he was missing some key elements that he needed to succeed. With her previous years in language education and blossoming career in law, Rebecca knew she could help him and other lawyers like him. Within 24 hours, Grammatika International was created.
Since day one, Rebecca’s goal has been to help lawyers and law students from around the world advance their careers through legal skill development, legal writing in particular. She brings her wide-ranging and international experience in law, languages, and skills-based education to the Grammatika classroom, having lived and worked in five jurisdictions throughout her career.
Rebecca is a licensed Barrister and Solicitor with the Law Society of Ontario. She was called to the bar in 2015 after graduating from the prestigious Juris Doctor program at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. After completing her articles under Barbara Jackman, she opened her own immigration and refugee law practice in association Jackman & Associates. She ran a hybrid virtual law practice between Canada, India, and the UK for a number of years. Rebecca appeared before a variety of decision makers, from the Immigration and Refugee Tribunal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Rebecca is now based in Perth, Australia where she is a practicing mediator, earning her mediation accreditation under the Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Standards in 2021.
Rebecca has worked in education for 17 years. She began teaching languages in 2007 to both adults and children, first in Canada and then in Spain. Since the launch of Grammatika, Rebecca has focused her pedagogical pursuits on legal education. From 2017 to 2020, Rebecca was a Senior Lecturer and Programme Manager at the University of Law in Manchester, UK where she taught a variety of subjects, such as Legal Skills, Ethics, Constitutional and Public Law, Immigration & Refugee Law, and Family Law and oversaw hundreds of students in undergraduate and masters programs in law. In Spain, she held various positions teaching professional English with government, language academies, private companies, and her own tutoring business.
Rebecca expresses her love of words not just through teaching but writing itself. For two years, she wrote as a monthly columnist for Canadian Lawyer Magazine 4Students while a law student. As a lawyer, she was a regular columnist at The Lawyer's Daily writing on topics from immigration law to legal education.
Rebecca is fluent in English and Spanish and has working knowledge of French and Italian. She has also studied Portuguese and Hindi.
